A well composed song carries the same spirit in the lyrics as are carried in the music. The music carries it on an emotional level. For instance, a good march would be all wrong with love song lyrics to it. A song whose lyrics were promoting revolution would be all wrong with music like “Old McDonald Has A Farm” is sung to. We need to be aware that music that fits well with the lyrics, such as Pink Floyd’s - “Leave Us Kids Alone”, still have the same spirit if just the music is played, minus the words. That same destructive spirit of the song is carried to the burden of those who detest the ungodliness. Which means that even if the listener can’t make out the words, he is still being assaulted by the music alone. Like I said earlier, I play a drum. I believe there’s a place for upbeat music, but not all types, and certainly not constantly. It’s much like food. There is a place of need for grains, but it cannot replace our need for meat, vegetables and fruit. I am speaking of music that is of good report all across the spectrum in styles and lyrics. |
